EBSSA work with the Engineering Services Super Sector project (ICSG SLG 10)
EBSSA is involved in the Industry Competence Steering Group Sector Lead Group 10 (ICSG SLG 10), part of wider industry and government efforts to ‘raise the bar’ on individual competence within the built environment in line with the new post-Grenfell competence regime established by the Building Safety Act.
The Building Safety Act 2022 together with supporting secondary legislation sets a general requirement for competence at both individual and organisational levels. For individuals, this means that any person carrying out building or design work must possess the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours (SKEB) necessary to perform their work.
In collaboration with the Industry Competence Steering Group (ICSG - a working group of the Building Safety Regulator’s statutory Industry Competence Committee), EBSSA has brought together sector specialists to create guidance around how individual competence can be defined, developed and demonstrated. More information on ICSG and its wider work can be found on the BSI Competence Hub.
This guidance is intended to support employers and individuals to meet their regulatory obligations. In some cases, further development of the tools available within industry to help evidence competence is still required.
The guidance set out here will continue to evolve as that implementation takes place, to continue to provide the most up to date information.
